But wait! There's more!

The next link has info about being part of the growing number of people being activated into the process of taking up the challenge of raising $500,000 to expand the scale, reach and quality of Revolution Newspaper. We want people giving donations to our ride not only to have a good sense of what they're giving to and why, but also of how and why they can and should be part of going out to others to raise even more as a concrete form of support for a paper that gives no slack to this system, calls out what it does and helps people see why things don't have to be the way they are, what a radically different and better world would be like, and a sense of what has to be done to bridge the gap between where we are now, and that world.

What a Weekend!

We had a great time on the Transportation Alternatives NYC Century this past weekend. Four participants in the Ride For Revolution rode either 35 or 55 miles of the 100-mile route through 4 out of NYC's 5 boroughs. The weather was nice. The scenery was varied and pretty. cars didn't give us much trouble along the route. The pace was good for training. A wide diversity of people came out.

We used it as a chance to both train for our upcoming ride, and (at least as much) as a way to meet others and tell them about the Ride for Revolution and urge them to be part of it and to get to know Revolution Newspaper if they didn't already.

At least a dozens or so people we met knew of the paper, and a couple read it with at least some regularity. Responses to what we were doing ranged from intrigued-and-interested, to excited that someone was doing something like this, to not knowing much about it but being "down" with anything talking about revolution. There were also a few people who wanted nothing to do with it, but far fewer than we had been prepared for.

One of the best things that happened was at the finish line, when we started distributing information to ride participants. One of the event organizers said we couldn't do that where we were and that we would need to have a table. Then, as they read over the postcard we'd handed them they said, "well let's get you a table!" So they went and got us a table. This allowed our display with several issues of the newspaper, postcards about our ride, and fundraising brochures to be a draw for a lot of people and spark many discussions about the paper, the ride, and even some broad discussion about socialism and communism and Bob Avakian's leadership.

Several hundred postcards talking about the ride and letting people know how to get involved were distributed, along with a smaller but significant number of fundraising brochures (those are tough to get out or carry on a bike ride, so we got them out at the end of the ride).

We got ways to reach 8 people who were interested in learning more, including a few who really were thinking about joining the ride.

Sept. 9! Be there!

Several participants in the Ride for Rev are signed up to take part in the September 9th NYC Century (just don't tell anyone we're only doing 55 miles of it!). This ride is organized by Transportation Alternatives, a well-established bicycle and pedestrian advocacy group.

Our plan is to show up early and talk it up with what promises to be a diverse group of cyclists from around the area about our ride and the newspaper we're raising money for, as we prepare for the ride to start, and hopefully to do more of the same as we snake along the scenic route that will cover 4 of the city's 5 boroughs. It should be a lot of fun, and we could certainly all use the training miles.

Welcome to "Riding for Revolution"

Some readers and supporters of Revolution Newspaper in New York City, who happen to also be into riding bikes, recently had an epiphany. We decided to use one of the things we love to do as a way of contributing to something we think the world badly needs right now: an expanded, even better, more widely available Revolution Newspaper, which exposes, indicts, explains and shows a viable and liberating way out from under the nightmarish system of capitalism. We 're embarking on something that promises to be a ton of fun and has the potential to be a way of raising a lot of money for the paper's ongoing expansion drive. We're asking people for pledges for our ride, which will take place this October and will enable people to ride distances ranging from 100 kilometers (a "metric century") down to 25 miles. Contributions received for the ride will go entirely to support the paper and help it become a much bigger force in society.

Please check back frequently for updates on the ride. Very soon we are aiming to have a way people can pledge directly online, via this blog site. Please contact us if you're interested in being part of the ride in any way, or if you have questions about it.
